Frequently asked questions

Which comparison mode suits Chinese text?

Character mode reveals individual Han-character replacements. Word mode suits prose and line mode suits logs or code. They change comparison granularity without editing the input.

What do red and green mean?

Red on the original side marks removed text; green on the revised side marks additions. A replacement is normally one deletion plus one addition.

Does ignoring whitespace remove line breaks too?

No. It normalizes spaces and tabs within each line and trims line edges, while preserving newline boundaries. Normalize paragraphs separately if needed.

Does it compare meaning or detect plagiarism?

No. It compares textual additions and deletions, not semantics, plagiarism or factual accuracy. Paraphrases may still show extensive differences.

Can I compare Word or PDF files?

This tool compares plain text and reads text formats such as TXT, JSON, Markdown and CSV, up to 1 MB. It does not parse Word or PDF layouts.
