Frequently asked questions
How do I set the silence threshold and duration?
Defaults are -40 dB and 0.3 seconds. Sound below the threshold for long enough is treated as silence. Adjust cautiously for background noise and listen before raising the threshold aggressively.
Can I remove pauses inside a recording?
Yes. Enable internal-silence removal to remove qualifying pauses within the recording. The default treats only the outer edges. Enabling internal removal can substantially shorten duration.
Why can silence removal cut quiet words?
Detection uses level and duration rather than speech meaning. High thresholds can remove quiet words or tails; very short durations can cut natural pauses. Lower the threshold or increase duration, then listen again.
Which threshold removes more sound: -20 dB or -60 dB?
-20 dB more readily classifies quieter sound as silence; -60 dB usually targets much quieter sections. The available range is -80 to -10 dB; values closer to zero are generally more aggressive.
Is silence removal the same as noise reduction?
No. It removes qualifying time intervals rather than filtering noise underneath speech. It does not enhance voices; noisy recordings need a dedicated noise-reduction process.
What size and duration limits apply to Audio Silence Remover?
Audio input is limited to 10 MB and 30 minutes, with generated output up to 150 MB. WAV can be much larger than an MP3 source; choose MP3 or a shorter track if needed.
