JPEG suits photographs, uses lossy compression and cannot store transparent pixels. WebP is useful for web graphics; transparency and animation depend on the conversion route.
Quality and output
Default WebP output uses lossy encoding. PNG transparency can be retained, but RGB pixels can change. Do not assume a fixed percentage reduction or lossless output.
