Frequently asked questions
When should I use complete-URL versus component mode?
Complete-URL mode preserves URL syntax such as : / ? & =. Component mode escapes those characters for a single parameter value or path component.
Why does Chinese text become sequences like %E4?
Percent encoding represents UTF-8 bytes as hexadecimal sequences. Decode restores valid encoded text. This is different from Base64.
Why does repeated encoding produce %25?
The percent sign is itself encoded as %25. Repeated encoding adds escape layers; decode only the layers actually present and check the result.
Does a plus sign automatically decode to a space?
No. URI decoding leaves + as a plus sign. The form-urlencoded convention differs and can use + to represent a space.
Why does %ZZ or an incomplete escape fail?
A percent sign needs two valid hexadecimal digits, and encoded bytes must form valid character sequences. The tool reports errors instead of guessing or discarding data.
