Frequently asked questions

How do seconds and milliseconds differ?

Milliseconds are seconds multiplied by 1000. Current values are often about 10 and 13 digits, but digit count is not a reliable rule for all dates; choose the source unit.

What is the Unix epoch?

It starts at 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC. Zero refers to that instant; changing the display time zone changes the local date, not the timestamp of the instant.

Why select a zone when entering a date?

A local date without an offset can refer to different instants. The selected IANA zone determines its meaning before converting to a timestamp.

How are missing or repeated DST times handled?

A skipped local time reports an error; repeated times offer a later occurrence. Choose the occurrence that matches the actual event.

Does it support microseconds, nanoseconds or Excel serial dates?

It currently supports Unix seconds and milliseconds only, not higher precision, Excel serial dates or other epoch formats. Check the source format first.
