Frequently asked questions

Does converting RAR to TAR change the files?

The converter reads the files inside RAR and repacks them as TAR; it does not convert the documents, images or videos within. Folder structure, empty directories and Unicode filenames are preserved. Operating-system metadata such as permissions and ownership is not guaranteed for backup restoration.

When should I choose TAR?

TAR bundles files and folders without compression. Choose TAR.GZ or TGZ to bundle and compress together.

Can I convert ZIP or 7Z to RAR?

The converter can read RAR but cannot create it. RAR to ZIP, 7Z and other supported formats works; RAR output has no enabled conversion control or indexable conversion page.

What are the size limits, and why can a small archive exceed them?

Convert one input archive at a time, up to 200 MB, with at most 500 MB of expanded data and 5,000 file and directory entries. Highly compressed archives can expand far beyond their input size, so both declared sizes and actual writes are bounded. Devices with limited memory may fail below these limits; cancel and choose a smaller archive if necessary.

Are passwords or split archives supported?

Download one converted archive. Password-encrypted archives, split volumes, ZIP64, links and special files are unsupported. Detected unsupported entries produce an error rather than silently dropping files from the result.
